10 Questions about me

Hi, I'm Johnnathan, although almost everyone calls me JD. The only exception is my wife, Anne, who insists on calling me John. Mind you, when Mum used my full name, Johnnathan, I usually knew I was in trouble!

Born and raised in Brisbane, I began my working life as a cabinet maker before eventually moving into healthcare. While those careers might seem worlds apart, both taught me valuable skills that I still use today—attention to detail, communication, compassion, and the importance of listening to people.

I've always loved working with timber and creating things with my hands. These days you'll often find me tinkering away on furniture projects or collecting bits and pieces that I'm convinced will be useful for a future masterpiece.

In 2018, I took a leap of faith and became a Civil Marriage Celebrant. Looking back, it felt like a natural progression. Healthcare gave me the privilege of connecting with people during some of life's most important moments, and being a celebrant allows me to do much the same—just with a lot more smiles, laughter and happy tears.

That same year, Anne and I swapped city life for the beautiful Scenic Rim, building our home near Boonah. When I'm not helping couples celebrate their love stories, you'll usually find me landscaping the property, spending more time than I'd like to admit on the ride-on mower, or being supervised by our resident pets.

There's Tiggin, our opinionated Siamese cat who firmly believes she owns the place, and Remy, our energetic Kelpie-Labrador cross who approaches every day with enthusiasm and keeps us thoroughly entertained.

One of my greatest joys is being a grandfather to six wonderful grandchildren who seem determined to grow up far faster than I'd like.

10 Questions with JD

1: Tea or coffee?

Coffee. Coffee. Coffee. And the occasional tea when I'm feeling adventurous.

2: Favourite food?

Savoury mince. Nothing fancy, just good comfort food.

3: Favourite movie?

The Fifth Element. I've always been a Bruce Willis fan, and this movie is completely bonkers in the best possible way.

4: First car?

A bright yellow Holden Torana. She was a beauty.

5: What qualities do you admire most in people?

Decency, respect, being non-judgemental, and having an easy-going nature.

6: Do you like being bald?

I'm doing my best to channel Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, so I'm perfectly happy with it.

7: If you could steal a fictional character's wardrobe?

Blade. Wesley Snipes made that outfit look ridiculously cool.

8: If you could have dinner with any famous people?

Bruce Willis and Gene Wilder. I reckon that would be a pretty memorable evening.

9: What's your favourite song to sing in the car?

Mr. Roboto by Styx or Separate Ways by Journey. Neither performance is likely to win any awards.

10: How would your friends describe you?

I've never actually asked them, but I'd like to think they'd say I'm friendly, easy-going, and someone who's always happy to have a chat.
